CONSTIPATION
Constipation is a common condition, often not considered important enough to be taken seriously but colon health is often the key to the health of the entire body. There are many causes of constipation, the most common being inappropriate diet, inadequate exercise and laxative/enema abuse. Women suffer more than men partly because their livers have to cope with so many complex hormones and bile is their natural laxative. When waste accumulates in the colon like this, auto-toxicity can cause lethargy, depression, skin problems and even allergies such as asthma, which appear unconnected. Pain is also a factor if allowed to become chronic. All other abdominal organs in the body are affected, including the heart, which can be put under pressure as a result. Symptoms include a difficulty in passing stools or infrequent or incomplete passage of stools.
Nutrition
A low fibre diet will hamper natural peristalsis.
Mucus forming, binding foods must be avoided like eggs, cheese, potato starch and other starches like white bread, custard and pasta because they gum up the colon.
Raw food with plenty of fibre is very helpful.
Take plenty of beneficial flora-rich foods: make rejuvelac and eat sauerkraut or buy Acidophilus or Probiotics.
Plant proteins and fats are important in the diet for example nuts and avocado. These should only be part of your generally balanced diet.
Correct any lack of nerve nourishment (available through food and herbs) especially paying attention to magnesium and calcium. (Avoid excessive worry).
Drink plenty to enable the bowel to move properly. Urination following a bowel movement signals that the bowel is completely empty. Two litres of fluid, mostly water daily is a minimum requirement for good bowel movements. Always drink a large glass of water and fresh lemon juice first thing in the morning. Soups made from whole grain organic wheat with lots of onions, garlic, black pepper and raw chillies will help.
Natural Healing
Always go to the toilet when you need to.
Take regular exercise, especially if you are elderly. Ensure that a regular walk is included in your daily routine. Cycling and riding are both excellent for massaging the bowel.
Use Hot and cold showers, especially over the colon. (Enquire for details).
Drugs, whether GP-given or recreational ones like heroin and opium, often over-stimulate or completely freeze peristalsis. Antibiotics can kill off beneficial flora, causing constipation and even small doses of antibiotics can set the pattern for years of constipation.
Herbs
Every day bowel management with herbs will be helpful. Aloe & Cascara capsules may be necessary as this formula is excellent; it is strong but gentle. The Barberry & Fennel capsules may also be necessary. This formula is based on Master Herbalist Dr. Christopher's formula and is designed for more 'daily' maintenance. The Three Stage Colon Cleanse will be necessary at some point. Your bowel may be in need of a combination of these from time to time - even with a good diet and plenty of drinking water and exercise. Often, constipated people become worse when they are sick, while others may get diarrhoea when they are fasting, nervous or excited. So use both these types of formulas and you will need to find a balance of the two that will work for you.
Do not use strong laxatives like senna on its own.

Metaphysical
On a mental level Constipation represents “refusing to release old ideas. Stuck in the past. Sometimes stinginess”. Affirmation:“ As I release the past, the new and fresh and vital enter. I allow life to flow through me.”
